Moving boxes: what to pack
Moving boxes and supplies may be cheap enough; but they still cost. There is also the considerations of space in the vehicle utilized and if using a professional mover, the charges for items by weight or count. To minimize it all, decide what you really need and want to take with you. Most moving pundits suggest using the two year rule. That means you search your attic, basement, shed, etc. and take those items you have not used or even looked at in the past two years. Do you still have unpacked moving supplies kits from your last move five years ago? How likely is it you will use anything inside?
What is in your garage? Do you have a collection of items you always intended to fix but never got around to it? Will you ever get that old rotary lawn mower blades sharpened? What about all those open cans of paint? Be sure to check with your local authorities on how to get rid of toxic waste. Pro carriers may not accept it for transport. Are there objects you’ve been saving even though they can't be cleaned or used anymore? Get out that old Garage Sale sign and put it to use.
Go through all those utility draws with old warrantees, pens that don't write, and scraps of paper you planned to get to some day. That day is today. Also, don't forget the fridge and medicine cabinet. How much mold do you need on the jar of sauce before you toss it? Get rid of those food items that are duplicated or will never be touched again. Check the expiration dates on not only food, but drugs vitamins, and supplements. Determine what is worth saving and what is not. Will you ever use it again or would someone else enjoy what you do not?
