Moving boxes for your paintings
Pictures and paintings need special attention and can't just be placed carefully in a cardboard container. We provide 41x6x26.5 box frames in bundles of 5 for larger items. You can also use smaller boxes that are not opened; but with either, users will need bubble wrap and packing tape.
With the picture lying flat, use the bubble wrap to encompass the entire frame, several times. Leave no open areas. Be sure to cover the corners and protect the picture, as well. Use the packing tape to reinforce the edges and secure the bubble wrap. For soft wood and fragile frames, you may want to explore purchasing specialized cardboard corners to place over the wrap, and tape them as appropriate.
With smaller pictures or those that are too large for the box frames, take a box that is close to the size of your picture, when flat. Use packaging tape to close one end of the box. Assure you have used enough wrapping to make the picture fit snugly. Slide the picture into the flat box and tape the top.
While individual pictures may be transported separately, it is probably more expedient to place them on their sides inside a large box or wardrobe moving box. Pictures should always be placed on an edge, rather than flat, in order to better absorb pressure. When put in larger moving boxes, use other objects, blankets, pillows, etc. to keep them straight and to prevent shifting. Do not place heavy items over them. For extra caution, cover the bottom of the wardrobe box with blankets or comforters.
Marking the moving kit with the word fragile will remind you and the movers about paying a little more attention to not dropping it. Also indicate where the box goes (bedroom #1, living room, etc.).
