Moving the big rooms and moving supplies
The contents of living rooms, dining rooms, and dens can be a daunting task. Where to start? It's time to decide what is going to the Salvation Army or garage sale. Next is to wrap the small items. We find packing peanuts are handy when dealing with small figurines, candy dishes, ash trays, etc. They fill the voids, keep items from scraping against each other, and absorb shock. Be sure to pack the moving box full but not over 50 pounds. Place the items through the packing box and don't concentrate the heavier things on one side or necessarily the bottom.
Take down your curtains and lay them flat; best to do it panel by panel. Removing the pins will help keep the tops from getting creased and ripped in transit. Place them all in sandwich bags. Fold the curtains, and put them in a wardrobe box, along with the pins and rods. The screws will be easier to find if you put them in a separate sandwich bag or envelope, and use packing tape to secure them to the curtain rod. Finials also go in bags and get taped to the rod. It makes it easier when unpacking.
If you’re taking Venetian blinds, roll them up tightly, wrap the cord around, and then remove from the brackets. Once the blinds are wrapped, use bubble wrap or newspaper to with packing tape, to keep them clean, and prevent unraveling of the cord. Smaller blinds may fit in wardrobe boxes or smaller. They are best packed and transported on end to save space plus keep from having objects resting on and bending the slats.
Vertical blinds require slats to be removed individually, and shrink wrapped in bulk along with the rod. Like horizontals, pack in a wardrobe box on end.
