The small appliance moving boxes
The first things to remember is don’t try to get more than one heavy, small appliance, in one moving box. It will have the tendency to shift and more than likely stress the seal underneath. A good idea is to place the appliance accessories in the same cardboard boxes. You can make good use of the extra space by packing in plastic jars and containers, as well. When preparing mixers, place each set of beaters in a plastic sandwich bag. It reduces your angst when searching for them in a crowded box with various sizes. You might want to use labels for quick access and less stress unpacking.
If you have to disassemble an item, we especially recommend you place the instruction manual (if you still have it!) on the bottom or side of the moving boxes. No instructions? Write a note of how it was taken apart and put that in the cardboard boxes. We like the idea of taking pictures of the process. Just don't forget to write down on an enclosed note, the file name so you can pull it up when needed.
When it comes to removing nuts and bolts, the preferred storage method is to reattach them to the appliance, when feasible. Otherwise, place them in an envelope or plastic sandwich bag and tape the bag to the appliance. This way you won’t confuse screws and will recall where they came from.
Wrap all appliance parts in paper or bubble wrap; depending on the fragility of the item. Secure them, when practical, using the packaging tape to bind it all together. Place the items on the bottom of the box, which has been lined with crushed newspaper. Packing peanuts work well but may be more pleasant unwrapping if placed in plastic shopping bags.
