III Packing the moving boxes into the rental truck
Many truck rental locations will include a moving dolly. Those that don’t generally will have one available for rental. If there are several adults helping, it might be advantageous to have several. Investing in one is an option, as well, since they are always useful. Also get some moving straps that will secure heavy appliances and large moving boxes to the dollies. Consider renting moving blankets if you don't want to use your household blankets or comforters.
Large and heavy objects that require more than one person to move, such as refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, dryers, freezers, etc. should be loaded first. They go flat up against the cab wall. Don't put them all on one side: keep the truck balanced by distributing the weight across the front of the truck. Use couch cushions to separate appliances if necessary, and center other appliances that won't fit in the first row, and create a second. Keep all appliances upright. Place heavy moving kits on the appliances and furniture. Fill any voids under furniture with moving boxes.
Make sure all furniture is padded, especially the corners of wooden objects.
Move longer items such as dressers, large mirrors, mattresses, and box springs next. Keep one mattress out to load on last.
Long items like disassembled bed rails, skis, and poles should be rolled up in rugs or carpeting and place on the floor when possible.
Wardrobe boxes and taller boxes should be packed with lighter moving boxes on top of them. Stack them as high and tight as possible.
Take that last mattress and put it up against the last row of moving boxes, to hold them in place. Cross tie them from one wall to the other. Finish with items such as bicycles, garbage cans, etc.
