Is it better to use bigger moving boxes?
When determining the size of the boxes for moving household goods, there are several thoughts to keep in mind. The major one being: who is doing the moving? Will it be a few big and brawny guys who have dollies and other equipment to assist them in handling? Will it be you and your family in a rented truck or trailer?
Else where, we discussed how crucial it is to obtain the moving boxes with the proper weight strength. Now we're talking size. In a nutshell, it comes down to how much you can lift without getting a herniated disk, whether it will take two or more of you to get the moving box into the vehicle, and will it fit? It is far better to go smaller and have more moving kits, when moving yourself, than fewer large boxes that will exhaust you and your patience so much sooner.
Packing the moving boxes can be a factor in your success. Throwing items in randomly or until the walls of the shipping boxes bulge can be far less effective than packing so the fit is snug; without much in the way of space for items to shift in transit: making unloading even more traumatic. Clothes that move within the cardboard box have a tendency to shift the contents of everything else. A moving box that can easily be lifted or placed on a dolly, versus a large one that has to be walked, can damage the corners and destroy the carton before it reaches its destination. Bulging cardboard boxes have a tendency to weaken the flutes within the walls of the structure and cause collapse when another package is placed above it. Putting more weight into the parcel beyond its capacity can challenge the integrity of the packaging tape: and loss of the contents when moved
