Kitchen Moving Boxes
There are several schools of thought on the process; but they all suggest using a medium sized moving box with a heavier ECT. You’ll need one for the items to be used on the last day or two before moving and the first day or two of the new move. Include plates, cutlery and drinking vessels. There’s always the coffee cup and pot, too.
The medium box and packing materials are the same for both. Medium because it offers greater strength and the ability to lift it with relative ease. You will need a roll of bubble wrap to get started, although here’s where those dishcloths, hand towels, pot holders, and dry sponges come in handy too. You can also create re-usable envelopes of sorts by using sealable plastic bags; depending on the size of the dish. Try covering the bottom of the moving box with a layer of bubble wrap or a cushioning hand towel. The largest dishes should go in first. We like to put a sheet of bubble wrap, washcloth, paper toweling, between each plate: or place each in a plastic bag. Make sure the dishes nest well. If you have excess room, wrap some utensils in one of the previous mentioned methods, and secure in place with more towels or crushed newspaper. It is quite important that there is no shifting within the moving box, so pack snugly.
For items with lids, such as sugar bowls, use a paper towel or napkin between the lid and bowl, secure tightly with bubble wrap and packing tape over that. To assure no leakage of contents, use a plastic bag to seal the item before placing it in the moving box. Be sure all items are not free to shift within the moving box once the top is sealed.
